Behind the Scenes: Additional LNG Fuel Gas Supply Systems Successfully Installed.

Marine Service GmbH, based in Hamburg, has successfully installed five additional LNG fuel gas supply systems on Helios-class cruise ships operated by Carnival Corporation.

Liquefied natural gas is currently regarded as one of the most environmentally friendly marine fuels, offering significantly reduced emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.

Marine Service GmbH was responsible for the engineering and supply of the gas fuel supply systems. The scope of supply for the main components included LNG pumps, gas compressors, vaporizers, and superheaters, as well as glycol-water modules. These modules utilize waste heat from the main engines and transfer it to the vaporizers and superheaters for efficient fuel processing.

In addition, the delivered systems comprise all electrical components, including pneumatic interfaces and a PLC-controlled automation system. The systems are designed with a high degree of redundancy, ensuring safe and reliable gas operation even in the event of individual component failures.

As in previous projects, Marine Service GmbH also prepared the operating manuals and provided comprehensive training for the ship’s crews and shipyard personnel involved in the commissioning and testing of the LNG systems.
